Solhälla has created a permaculture plan for Hällungebygden in cooperation with Hällmarken, Jordhälla and Hällskogen. We participate in Transition Town  Hällungebygden with the goal of establishing a sustainable community in the area surrounding Lake Hällungen.

Below is an excerpt from this visionary document.

Övergripande vision
Our overall vision is to  establish and maintain an ecological balance in this area as well as setting a good example for others who see the need to create susainable community.

· Beauty as a point of Orientation
That which is beautiful is also good and true. It is for example necessary that we limit our
material space if we are to regain balance in the living nature. This limitation is at the same time an opportunity to create a deeper presence and meaning in human relationships. Ecology leads to a re-establishment of the locally functioning community in which food and other necessities are to a great extent produced locally. In this way a new economy is developed which connects people with each other and with their place of residence.

·  Care of Nature

· Everything we eat, our clothes, the fuel in our vehicles, everything comes from the planet we live on. The processes which keep the ecology stabile and productive are complex with  links in all directions. We are dependent on a well functioning ecology for the welfare of ourselves and our children. It is not possible to separate care of nature from ourselves, our future and our children. .

· Care of People

It is essential to have a social and cultural community which leads to sustainability, cooperation and democracy.

It is important that community members, especially the youth, gain a greater understanding of ecosystems and their role in our welfare. Outdoor education has been shown to be an effective way of learning about a wide range of subjects.

· Cooperation across boundaries.

We are inspired by and follow the regional plan in Västra Götaland as well as national and international permaculture and sustainability projects. In order for society to function on a macro-level and micro-level, the parts of which it is composed must also be sustainable. For this reason we believe it is imperative with a social and cultural community which creates sustainability, cooperation and democracy.

“This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.”
